In support of Art Design Chicago, Leslie Hindman Auctioneers will host an evening discussion with Chicago-based collectors on Friday, October 19 at 6:30pm. Panelists will include notable collectors of fine art, memorabilia, books and manuscripts and other collecting areas.

In conjunction with the October 23 Made in Chicago auction, the conversation will include how collectors began to follow their areas of interest and what they look for when they invest in art and other objects. The event will be followed by a cocktail hour with an early preview of the Made in Chicago auction exhibition.

Made in Chicago will celebrate the great art and design of Chicago. The October 23 sale will include fine art, memorabilia and objects connected to the city and notable Chicagoans. The auction house will be accepting consignments for sale through the summer of 2018.

Chicago Collects Event

Friday, October 19 | 6:30pm

This evening event includes an industry panel discussion accompanied by a reception and early preview of the exhibition for the October 23 Made in Chicago auction, which features items from a number of local collections. Starting at 7:30 p.m., Janine Mileaf, Executive Director of The Arts Club of Chicago, moderates a panel about contemporary collecting: taking risks and the collecting opportunities that either stuck or missed.

Panelists

Chuck & Kathy Harper

Chuck and Kathy Harper have been collecting for 30 years. Their primary focus is on American Abstract Expressionists who studied at Black Mountain College from 1933 – 1957 or showed in Stable Gallery Annuals from 1953 – 1957.  The Harper’s have recently been adding Chicago Imagists to their collection.

Scott H. Lang

Scott H. Lang started by collecting outsider and self-taught artists beginning in the late 70s. He added miscellaneous contemporary artists to his collection during the 80s and 90s and most recently narrowed his focus almost exclusively to Chicago Imagists and outsider/self-taught artists. He is a founding member, director and chair of the development committee for Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art, including the “Intuit – Just Imagine” capital campaign.

Paula Crown

Paula Crown is an artist, optimizer, connector and collector. Paula and Jim’s collection reflects a palimpsest: an accretion of diverse works ranging from sculpture from the 2nd century BC to contemporary painting and drawing. The collection has a concentration of major works by female artists from 1930 to today.
