70s Inspired Fashion Fall Trends

Blog | October 6, 2015

As September comes to a close, the Fall Fashion trends established on the runway during the biggest fashion month of the year begin to be revealed as the the weather inevitably gets cooler. Designers sent many 70s inspired fashion fall trends down the New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter runway this year and there is no shortage of this bourgeoning trend in the Luxury Accessories and Vintage Fashion auction on October 7. This aesthetic from one of the more iconic decades in fashion can be mixed into our wardrobes by pairing vintage fashions with modern wardrobe stables to create an on-trend but wearable look.

Here, the director of our Luxury Accessories and Vintage Fashion department, Anne Forman, takes a look at a few fashions from our curated inventory inspired by this trend.

Peasant Blouses:

This Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche goldenrod peasant blouse is perfect tucked into a modern flared jean and paired with heels. This type of open neckline calls for layering necklaces. This Chanel sautoir can be layered with a long metallic tassel necklace, creating a funky yet sophisticated accent to this casual fall ensemble.

Knitwear Patterns:

Bill Gibb was a seventies knitwear powerhouse who designed his iconic patterned garments for his namesake line that launched in 1972. Seventies fashion icon Twiggy was a huge fan of Gibb; wearing his creations for many special events. This cozy Bill Gibb sweater has a ruffled shawl collar and a pattern reminiscent of the 70s. Wear over a skinny black pant to complete the look.
